OUR BENEFICIARY
Family House serves as a home away from home for families of seriously ill children being treated at the UCSF Children’s Hospital. Families come from at least 50 miles away for treatment and are not charged during their stay.
Family House is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that receives no financial support from UCSF, or any public entity. It relies solely on private funding to provide services.
Located in the vicinity of UCSF, Family House can accommodate 34
families—107 people per night. Families share large living rooms, kitchens, libraries, playrooms, and laundry facilities. Family House serves at least 2000 families each year, and occupancy is almost always at 100 percent.
Family House serves children with cancer undergoing bone marrow transplants, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments, and when space is available, it serves other children with life-threatening illnesses. Families not only receive the essential service of housing, but also the more intangible comfort and community they need.
